Arbutus

Strawberry Tree: Strawberry Tree

Also called marine ceraso or albatross. The botanical name, Arbutus unedo (= I eat only one), was assigned to him by Pliny the Elder, making a clear allusion to the scanty taste of its fruits. In Algeria and in Corsica from the fruits the wine called "of corbezzolo" is obtained. The Romans gave it magical powers. Virgil, in the Aeneid, says that on the graves the relatives of the deceased used to deposit branches of strawberry trees. The meaning of this plant is the estimate.
